Procedure Description: Argon laser used to treat glaucoma
What To Expect: Only a topical anesthetic drop is used. There is no pain involved in this procedure. A special lens is placed on the eye and the laser treatment is performed. The treatment takes less than 10 minutes and can eliminate the need for the use of multiple glaucoma drops. In some cases, the treatment can eliminate the need for drops completely.
Preprocedure: The patient should arrive to the office 10 to 15 minutes prior to the scheduled laser procedure. Preoperative drops will be placed in the patient's eye. The patient should have a driver because the vision in the treated eye will be blurred for approximately 20 minutes following the laser procedure.
Postprocedure: The patient will be able to leave the office following the treatment and will be given written post-operative instructions to follow at home. There are no restrictions, and the patient will resume all normal activities the following day.
Cataract Surgery - NO NEEDLES!
Procedure Description: Removal and replacement of the human lens when it becomes a cataract. The clouding of the human lens is known as a cataract.
What To Expect: A small, microscopic incision is made at the edge of the cornea and the clouded human lens (the cataract) is removed. Only topical, novacaine-like eye drops are needed and the procedure is completed in approximately 25 minutes.
Preprocedure: Our surgical coordinator will take care of all the details involved with scheduling the procedure. After the decision to proceed with surgery has been reached, you will return to Dr. Haight's office one time prior to your surgery for a pre-operative visit to determine what lens implant will be used during your surgery. We offer multifocal intraocular lens implants (ReSTOR) for some patients, and corneal limbal relaxing incisions (LRI) may be indicated to reduce astigmatism in selected individuals. You will also need to see your primary care physician for a preoperative physical; this is for your benefit and we will take care of all the arrangements!
Postprocedure: You will need a relative, friend or neighbor to bring you to the hospital the morning of your procedure and bring you home after surgery. The next day following your surgery, you will return to Dr. Haight's office for your first of three post-operative appointments. You should not drive yourself to your first post-operative appointment. Dr. Haight will see you again approximately one week after your surgery and finally one month later. At the last post-operative appointment, you will be tested for and given a prescription for a new eyeglass lens, if one is needed.
